MASALA CHAI LATTE
Warm, creamy, and deeply fragrant, this Homemade Masala Chai Latte is a café-style comfort drink you can make right at home. Traditionally inspired by Indian masala chai, a spiced black tea brewed with milk and sweetener, this version adds an aromatic twist using NPG Whole Star Anise Seed for a gently sweet, licorice-like note that makes every sip feel extra cozy.
Star anise is commonly used to infuse flavor into broths and braises. But it’s also perfect for beverages, especially chai, because it releases its sweet herbal aroma beautifully when simmered. With NPG Whole Star Anise, you get bold fragrance, convenient whole pods, and easy storage in a sealed stand-up pouch that helps preserve its natural scent.
Ingredients (Makes 2 servings)
Chai Concentrate
-
2 cups water
-
2 black tea bags (or 2 teaspoons loose black tea)
-
2 to 3 pods NPG Whole Star Anise Seed
-
1 small cinnamon stick
-
4 green cardamom pods, lightly crushed
-
4 whole cloves
-
6 to 8 thin slices fresh ginger (optional but recommended)
-
2 to 3 teaspoons sweetener (sugar, honey, or brown sugar), to taste
Latte Finish
-
1 1/2 to 2 cups milk (dairy or oat milk recommended for creaminess)
-
Optional: 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract for a café-style finish

Directions
-
Simmer the spices
In a small pot, add water, NPG Whole Star Anise pods, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and ginger. Bring to a gentle simmer for 6–8 minutes to let the spices infuse. -
Brew the tea
Add black tea bags (or loose tea) and simmer for 2–3 minutes. Turn off heat. -
Sweeten
Stir in your sweetener while the chai is still warm so it dissolves easily. -
Strain
Strain the chai concentrate into a mug or measuring jug, removing the whole spices (just like removing bay leaves after cooking). -
Make it a latte
Warm the milk in a separate pot or microwave until steaming (not boiling). Froth if desired. -
Pour and serve
Divide chai concentrate into two mugs and top with warm milk. Add vanilla if using. Finish with a star anise pod or a light dusting of cinnamon for presentation.
Serving Tip
For a café-style look, serve in a clear glass mug with a cinnamon stick and one star anise pod on top. For iced masala chai, cool the concentrate, pour it over ice, and add cold milk.
If you love warm spices and comforting flavors, this chai latte is the perfect way to use NPG Whole Star Anise Seed beyond soups and stews. It’s fragrant and easy, which makes your kitchen smell like a cozy tea shop in minutes.
Brew your next chai latte with NPG Whole Star Anise and taste the sweet, herbal warmth in every sip.
