LONGAN TONG SUI

LONGAN TONG SUI

If you’re craving something cozy but light, Longan Tong Sui is a classic Asian dessert soup that always hits the spot. Popular in Chinese households and dessert shops, tong sui (meaning “sweet water”) is traditionally served warm and gently sweet. Perfect after a meal or as a soothing evening treat.

This version uses NPG Longan Pulp for that signature honey-like longan flavor. Fruity, floral, and naturally comforting with minimal prep and an easy, clean finish.

Ingredients (Serves 2–4)

  • 1 cup NPG Longan Pulp (drained if packed in syrup; keep a little syrup if you want it sweeter)

  • 4 cups water

  • 2–3 tbsp rock sugar (or granulated sugar, adjust to taste)

  • 6–10 dried red dates (jujube), optional

  • 1–2 tbsp goji berries, optional

  • 1–2 pandan leaves, optional (for aroma)

  • 1–2 tsp cornstarch slurry (1 tsp cornstarch + 2 tsp water), optional for a slightly thicker soup

Optional add-ins:

  • Silken tofu cubes (gentle and soft)

  • Snow fungus (tremella), soaked and torn into small pieces

  • Glutinous rice balls (tang yuan) for a more filling dessert

Directions

  1. Bring the base to a simmer
In a pot, add 4 cups water and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.

  2. Sweeten and build flavor
Add rock sugar and stir until dissolved.
If using red dates, goji berries, or pandan leaves, add them now and simmer 8–10 minutes to infuse.

  3. Add NPG Longan Pulp
Stir in the NPG Longan Pulp and simmer gently for 3–5 minutes.
Avoid boiling too hard to keep the longan tender and fragrant.

  4. Optional: thicken slightly
If you want a lightly silky texture, stir in a little cornstarch slurry and simmer for 30–60 seconds until slightly thickened.

  5. Serve
Ladle into bowls and enjoy warm for the most traditional experience—or chill and serve cold for a refreshing dessert soup.

Serving Tips

  • Serve warm with a few extra longans on top for a pretty finish

  • Pair with silken tofu for a soft, comforting texture

  • Add tang yuan for a more indulgent dessert bowl

Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently over low heat to preserve the aroma.
